What Is a Preposition?
Pahami konsep dasar kata depan dalam bahasa Inggris.
A preposition (kata depan) adalah kata yang menunjukkan hubungan antara kata benda (noun) atau kata ganti (pronoun) dengan bagian lain dalam kalimat. Hubungan tersebut dapat menunjukkan tempat (place), waktu (time), arah (direction), posisi, atau hubungan lainnya.
Key Insight: Preposition selalu diikuti oleh objek preposisi (object of the preposition), yang biasanya berupa kata benda atau frasa kata benda.

Types of Prepositions
Kategori preposisi berdasarkan fungsinya: Place, Time, Direction, dan Other.
Prepositions of Place (Tempat & Posisi)
Digunakan untuk menunjukkan tempat atau posisi suatu benda atau orang.
Di dalam suatu ruang atau area tertutup.
“The pencil is in the pencil case.”
Di atas atau menempel pada suatu permukaan.
“The book is on the desk.”
Di suatu titik atau lokasi spesifik.
“We are at the bus stop.”
Di bawah sesuatu.
“The cat is under the table.”
Di belakang.
“The bag is behind the door.”
Di depan.
“The teacher is in front of the class.”
Di samping / sebelah.
“The school is next to the library.”
Di antara dua benda / orang.
“The ball is between two boxes.”
Berseberangan.
“My house is across from the mosque.”
Prepositional Phrases
Mengenal kelompok kata yang dimulai dengan preposisi.
A prepositional phrase adalah kelompok kata yang terdiri dari sebuah preposition dan pelengkapnya (biasanya berupa noun phrase / kata benda atau pronoun).
Structure: Preposition + Object of the Preposition
Contoh Struktur & Analisis:
in + the classroom
→ in the classroom (di dalam kelas)
under + the table
→ under the table (di bawah meja)
after + school
→ after school (setelah sekolah)
with + my best friend
→ with my best friend (dengan sahabatku)
